Marvel Cottage enjoys stunning views across lakes to the downs beyond. It is an individual, detached property on a picturesque 40 acre farm which is home to horses and sheep. It stands on the edge of one of the Isle of Wight’s ‘Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. There is a lovely pond with an abundance of wildlife including ducks, herons, moorhens, coots and swans plus two large trout lakes where arrangements can be made to fish. The lakes abound with a variety of birds making them a wonderful location for bird watchers and from the cottage visitors can watch Red Squirrels feeding. This is also a superb cycling and walking area with direct access to a network of cycle paths, footpaths and bridleways including the Stenbury Trail which extends from Cowes to Ventnor and also the Tennyson Trail from Carisbrooke to the Needles, on the western tip of the island.

The central location makes Marvel Cottage an ideal base for touring the Isle of Wight. The sandy beaches of Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor are within a 15 to 20 minute drive as are more secluded bays on the west side of the island. All are reached through some of Britain's finest scenery, including the popular surfing beach at Compton Bay on the Island's "Bone Coast" where remains of the Island's most ancient inhabitants, Dinosaurs can be found! The spectacular medieval castle of Carisbrooke is just a 15 minute walk away along picturesque country lanes and Osborne House, the island home of Queen Victoria is within a 15 minute drive. Newport, the Island's 'capital', with its shops, multiplex cinema, restaurants and pubs is a five minute drive or an easy 20 minute walk away. The yachting centre of Cowes is only fifteen minutes by car and ample storage for sails, dinghies, etc., can be provided if required.

Marvel Cottage has been skilfully converted from an ancient barn and provides very attractive, well equipped accommodation of a high standard in delightful peaceful surroundings with stunning rural views from all of the main rooms. The cottage is centrally heated and double glazed. Double doors open into a lovely light and airy open plan area with a charming sitting room furnished with a large arm chair and two comfortable sofas; flat screen television/Freeview/DVD and music system; a dining area with a lovely circular table; a well-equipped fitted kitchen with an electric cooker and hob, microwave, refrigerator with ice box and washing machine. Access to a freezer and tumble dryer is also provided. Stairs lead up to two charming bedrooms - a double room and a second bedroom with a zip and link bed which can be made up as a twin or as a ‘super king’ double. There is also a well-equipped tiled bathroom with a built in ‘Myra’ shower, basin and w.c. A baby bath and stair gate are provided and a travel cot and high chair can also be made available. Central heating and electricity are provided without extra charge as is unlimited WiFi internet.

French doors open on to a delightful terrace with lovely open views. Garden furniture and a barbecue are provided so that meals can be enjoyed in the sunshine. There is also a small lawned area and parking for two cars beside the cottage. Children do need to be very closely supervised in the garden due to proximity of the pond and lakes.

Visitors are welcome to roam across the beautiful farmland and enjoy picnics by the Trout lakes. Arrangements can be made to enjoy fly fishing on the lakes. Tuition and tackle hire are available. One of the proprietors is a professional palaeontologist (have a look at ‘Sweetman dinosaur’ to get an idea of what he gets up to) and is happy to identify your fossil finds and/or take you on guided fossil hunting trips.

A very comfortable, homely cottage in a beautiful countryside location. You are right in the heart of the country, however the close proximity to Newport town made it extremely convenient too. The cottage is very well equipped. Very relaxing. Overall Rating: 5 Stars

Marvel Cottage really is in a wonderful setting. A pond with ducks just outside the cottage, a lake in the distance, stables with horses just outside. Our little three year old girl loved visiting the horses each day to see what they were up to. Thanks for a lovely week. Overall Rating: 5 Stars

A fantastic setting to enjoy nature with visiting neighbours of rabbits ducks geese and a pleasant rural outlook, all located just outside Newport. Definitely recommended. Overall Rating: 5 Stars

Lovely location would most definitely stay here again. Perfect  holiday. Thankyou.

Marvel Cottage is a beautiful place and the nature around seems so magical. Dr Sweetman even let us come along for his interview with a German radio station and helped us find some fossils!! Thank you for sharing this marvellous peaceful place. We had a wonderful time enjoying nature and silence.

A short break in a lovely, comfortable and well-appointed cottage. Pity about the weather! Very appreciative of the added extras flowers, wine, etc.

Our third year here, we Have not found a better place. Great hosts, views, cycle paths and wildlife. See you again next year.

Another great week at Marvel Cottage and our second year here. Did not disappoint.

Excellent location, great cottage and very well equipped kitchen. Thank you so much for the extra mile including the milk, tea Coffee AND OF COURSE the wine! It was great fun watching the rabbits, ducks and the mischievous pup! Evening walks round the lakes to spot the jumping fish were lovely too.

We came over for the Festival with our three year old son and decided living under canvas would be far too stressful. After doing a search on the internet we were lucky enough to stumble across Marvel Cottage. The location is idyllic, with rabbits, ducks, swans, geese and horses, and the most amazing views you could wish for. Every comfort was taken care of and we slept like logs every night in extremely comfortable beds. Mr & Mrs Sweetman are two of the most gracious hosts we have come across, which all in made our stay on the I of W most enjoyable and one we would very much look forward to repeating in the future.

The perfect place to celebrate a special anniversary with our family. The cottage is beautifully kept and in a perfect location for visiting anywhere on the island. We enjoyed strolling around your lakes and the weather was perfect breakfast on the patio in March. Thank you.

What a great find this was! Lovely cottage in a perfect location, not far from anywhere, Thank you so much for the hospitality and especially Steve for sharing knowledge and valuable time to help us make some good “finds” We’ll be back. Also lovely welcome with fresh flowers, milk and a bottle of wine. What a treat!
